But still nowhere near the level of the truly inspired masterpieces that came after that album.
Part of the reason it was cool is they played Atom Heart Mother’s best parts and trimmed a lot of the bloated horns & repetition that goes nowhere. I just saw Nick Mason’s tour with the If > AHM > If medley and it was really cool. I can say I have a recording of a Syd Barrett fart that is my favorite Pink Floyd recording, and I wouldn’t be “wrong” since it’s my opinion, but would that be an objectively ignorant opinion? Of course it would. I frequently say everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not all opinions are created equally, and if you post a deeply flawed one in a public forum that has up and down votes built right into the interaction you must expect you’ll get toasted. This is not your fault, but the amount of discussion here about an album that is CLEARLY the work of a band experimenting and figuring out their direction (not debatable) is starting to make me actively push back. But I never would have thought about it much if I hadn’t joined this subreddit.
